Respiratory Therapy

Breathing is Fundamental
That’s why we’re here.

Southwestern Medical Center provides diagnostic, preventive, and treatment services for diseases that affect breathing and lung function. The pulmonary team focuses on the health of the respiratory system, using procedures such as bloodwork, bronchoscopy (a procedure that allows a doctor to look directly at the lungs using a thin, lighted tube), chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests including spirometry, and sleep studies.

Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Outpatient pulmonary rehab is designed to help improve the symptoms of chronic (long-term) lung disease. Healthcare providers guide you through physical activities (based on your tolerance level), education, and techniques to help you manage your breathing during everyday activities.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is recommended for patients with lung disease who experience shortness of breath frequently and are not able to perform daily activities despite daily use of medication. This program is optimal for anyone with a diagnosis of COPD or other types of chronic lung disease that limit breathing and performance of normal daily activities.

Breathing Treatment Services

Our pulmonary specialists provide inpatient and outpatient breathing treatment services, including:

  • Arterial blood gas sampling and analysis
  • Bronchial hygiene therapy
  • Evaluation for home care needs, including patient education, and referrals for oxygen and respiratory therapy equipment
  • Lung function studies
  • Oxygen studies, including nighttime, exercise, and resting studies

Whatever your respiratory disease or issue, the team at Southwestern wants to help you better manage your condition so you can do the things you want to do.
